The Maine Association of Assessing Officers is pleased to announce that William “Bill” Van Tuinen has been selected as the 2023 recipient of the MAAO Legacy Award.

The MAAO Legacy award is sponsored annually by the Maine Association of Assessing Officers Association (MAAO) to recognize years of dedicated service and excellence as a Maine Assessor. The recipient of the Legacy award has left a footprint in the Maine assessing community through education, leadership, service, and a track record of high ethical standards.

Bill has constantly expanded his skills. Initially his work was mostly revaluations for towns. He learned to evaluate paper mills, hydroelectric facilities, and now solar energy installations. Bill has shared his skills with other assessors over the years.

When he would travel to “his” towns he was always dropping in on other assessors. He has made himself available to support other assessors when they had difficult situations. Bill has written and supported legislation to improve tax assessment in the State of Maine. He has emphasized ethical representation.

We hope you will join us in congratulating Bill on this prestigious award.
